The Bowl Base

The Bowl Bases

Dyslexia and Dyspraxia affect one in ten people worldwide. Those with these conditions are tired of products that don’t work for them or stigmatise them. The ‘Dyspraxie’ and ‘Dyslexie’ cooking tools have been designed to give them confidence in the kitchen in an attractive, inclusive and desirable way. They aim to solve three of the key issues associated with the conditions: spilling, gripping and organisation.

The ‘Bowl Bases’ prevent spilling, with a wide base and ridges to aid stability and angle a mixing bowl securely. Made of silicone, they promote better grip, flexibility and durability.

The Bowl Bases were developed after extensive research with materials and the end users. Working with the Dyspraxia Tyne and Wear Association I pinpointed the difficulties experienced in using mixing bowls. The ambidextrous activity of holding the bowl steady and mixing all at once is a big challenge. The bowl bases have been developed in silicone in order to stick to and add support on kitchen surfaces and bowl profiles alike. The ridges of the Bowl Bases enable mixing bowls of varying sizes to be tilted to useful angles. They have been designed to look at home in a kitchen and can be adapted into display vessels when not supporting a bowl.
